The organizers of the upcoming music, film, and interactive media festival SXSW 2015, announced the third round artist lineup on January 13. Korean artists Epik High, Hitchhiker, and Crayon Pop were included in the roster of artists.
Epik High, Crayon Pop, and Hitchhiker were previously announced on January 7 as performers at the K-Pop Night Out event. The annual event which is presented by KOCCA will take place on Thursday, March 19 at the Elysium.
YG Entertainment’s Epik High has received increased attention for their successful hip-hop album, “Shoebox.” On “Shoebox,” Epik High continued to push the boundaries between K-hip-hop and pop.
Crayon Pop are the crown jewels of Chrome Entertainment. The girl group received widespread American media coverage as the opening act for U.S. engagements of Lady Gaga’s 2014 Artpop Tour. Other opening acts of the Artpop Tour included J-pop hologram idol Hatsune Miku and Japanese rock group Babymetal.
Hitchhiker received attention for his quirky 2014 release “Eleven” which was praised by electronic dance darlings Diplo and Skrillex. Hitchhiker is the moniker for SM Entertainment producer and songwriter Choi Jin Woo. His credits include releases from G-Dragon, f(x), Girls’ Generation, and EXO. Hitchhiker is an alter ego persona along the lines of Diplo’s Major Lazer.
Past K-pop Night Out performers have included SM Entertainment’s f(x) in 2013, followed by Jay Park and 4Minute’s HyunA in 2014.
The third round announcement for SXSW 2015 also included artists from Japan and Taiwan. Tokyo’s Moumoon were added to the lineup along with Taipei’s OVDS.
Music events for SXSW will be held in locations within and surrounding Austin, Texas from March 17 through 22.
