Yang Hyun Suk Expresses Confidence in Success of ‘Mix & Match’ Members

YG’s new boy group will finally be unveiled.

On October 30, Mnet’s Mix & Match aired the final match, which was held on October 22 in Korea University along with 4,000 fans.

During the event, which was attended by YG family, Yang Hyun Suk said, “The survival program, which began with WIN, has been continuing for two years. I hope that the members who started off as Team B will debut through Mix & Match and become a good group like Big Bang, gaining popularity from Korea and all over the world.”

The final match involved three different matches, including free song match, self-composed song match and dance match.

After finishing all the performances, Kim Jin Hwan said, “I hope that today’s performance becomes your best performance and let’s not apologize to each other,” expressing his heart for the members who will get eliminated.

B.I said, “This is not the end so I hope we can meet again at a higher place next time. I was happy until now and I thank and love you.”

Yang Hyun Suk said, “Today is really the last day. I don’t know who will be eliminated yet but even if you don’t become a member of iKON, I’m sure there will be a new beginning for you. Since you’ve gone through so much experience and growth through several survivals, I am confident that you will become a great group in Asia and the world. I will also help you out from the side,” adding, “All nine members worked so hard.”

Ones to Watch: Upcoming November K-Dramas

Ones to Watch: Upcoming November K-Dramas

to keep us thoroughly entertained. And while Halloween is right around the corner to mark the end of the month, fear not, as November has a delightful spread of dramas to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters at the K-drama table.  And don’t worry, there are no tricks here, just treats.

. . .

“Birth of a Beauty”

November 1 – Saturdays and Sundays on SBS

birth of a beauty
Han Ye Seul plays a spurned ajumma who convinces plastic surgeon Han Tae Hee (Joo Sang Wook) to transform her into a modern Venus, taking up the name Sara. The pair becomes a team, as Han coaches Sara in all the ways to entice men–specifically a man named Lee Gang Joon (Jung Gyu Woon), the source of Sara’s broken heart and the reason she’s bent on revenge. The teasers for this drama have been light-hearted and fun, but I imagine that both Han Ye Seul and Joo Sang Wook will bring a lot of heart and depth to their characters. I’m particularly interested in “Birth of a Beauty” as it marks Han’s first project since 2011′s “Spy Myung-Wol.” I have generally liked her previous performances and am eager to see her return to K-dramas.

Check out the teaser for “Birth of a Beauty” below:

. . .

“Mr. Baek”
(November 5 – Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC)
mr. baek

While keeping with the theme of transformation, MBC’s “Mr. Baek” takes a different approach by focusing on age rather than beauty. Shin Ha Kyun plays an ailing, elderly president who suddenly finds himself 40 years younger and falling in love with Eun Ha Soo (Jang Na Ra), a cheerful young woman who nonetheless struggles to make ends meet–until she lands a full-time job working for Shin Ha Kyun’s company.  plays Shin’s son and heir, who will butt heads with the capable Jung Yi Gun (), the President’s right hand man. There’s something incredibly enticing about being able to recapture youth, especially if you retain the wisdom and knowledge you’ve gained with age. What choices would you make in your younger years, knowing what you know now? How would your life change? “Mr. Baek” seems to tackle all these questions and more, served up with a slice of humor.

The teaser for “Mr. Baek” shows him having a blast as his new younger self:

. . .

November 12 – Wednesdays and Thursdays on SBS
pinocchio

The main cast of “Pinocchio” features several familiar names: , , , and are all young reporters working closely together in a newsroom. Park Shin Hye’s Choi In Ha is a reporter who starts to hiccup whenever she lies (which explains the show’s title), while Choi Dal Po (Lee Jong Suk) is a sharp and capable rookie with a tragic past, Kim’s Seo Bum Jo is tall, attractive, has grown up in privilege, and may or may not know the meaning of hard work, and finally, Yoon Yoo Rae (Lee Yoo Bi) is a former sasaeng fangirl whose skills aid her in the newsroom. I anticipate all the drama one would find in a workplace–heated arguments, moments of tension and triumph, as well as the inevitable office romance–but what makes this drama one to watch is this bunch of interesting characters, and how well (or not) they’ll be able to work together in pursuit of this more noble idea: the truth.

In the teaser below, we see scenes of Choi Dal Po and Choi In Ha’s adolescent relationship:

. . .

“The King’s Face”
Mid-November – Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS2

kings face

The historical drama “The King’s Face” follows the life of concubine-born Prince Gwanghae (Seok In Guk) as he struggles to succeed his father, King Seonjo (). Now, every heir to the throne needs a rival, and in “The King’s Face” that role is filled by Kim Do Chi (Shin Sung Rok) who has the ability to predict the future based off a reading of one’s face. In the middle of it all the intrigue and rivalries is love interest Kim Ga Hee (). I have to admit historical dramas are not usually my first pick, but both Seo In Guk and Shin Sung Rok have had a great year with their choice of projects, which gives me confidence in this drama. But more than that, I mentioned in “” post that “The King’s Face” is directed by Yun Seong Sik, whose style of storytelling I really enjoy for its focus and sleekness. “The King’s Face” is set to premiere after “Blade Man.”

. . .

“Dr. Frost”
November 23 – Sundays on OCN

frosty

And now for something a little different. OCN’s “Dr. Frost” is based off a popular webtoon about a brilliant psychologist, played by Song Chang Eui, who helps solve crimes with his unique ability to read people’s gestures and faces. Having suffered an injury to his frontal lobe as a child, Dr. Frost has keen perceptive abilities, but this is the case where when one gains something, one must lose something else. And for Dr. Frost, his ability to sympathize with others was lost or at least seriously stunted. However, as our emotionally detached doctor begins to work closely with his assistant (Jung Eun Chae) there may be a chance for a thawing of his heart. I really love this kind of character flaw–where what makes Dr. Frost so capable and great in one situation, is also his “Achilles heel” in another. In this way, Dr. Frost isn’t this unreachable, perfect hero, and honestly, how can you not root for him to feel emotions? And as if I wasn’t already excited for this drama, the animated teaser that OCN came out with sealed the deal:

. . .

“Valid Love”
November 24 – Mondays and Tuesdays on TVN

Here’s the thing, I really like the actors of “Valid Love” (working title). Our hero is playing opposite , with and rounding out our main cast. That should be more than enough reason to tune into this drama – if you can get past the premise of the show, which is about Lee Si Young’s character cheating on her husband (Uhm) with the handyman carpenter (Lee). Choi Yeo Jin plays the younger sister of Uhm Tae Woong’s character. It’s a slippery slope, to be sure, but if there’s any sympathy to be found in the situation, this cast of actors would be the ones who could draw it out of the viewers. The second thing this drama has going for it is that the writer of “Valid Love” is the same writer who gave us the much beloved “My Lovely Sam Soon” which really dug in and explored the complexities of love and relationships. “Valid Love” is set to premiere after “Liar Game.”

November is serving ups some delicious dramas. Which ones are you most excited for? Vote below and tell us your thoughts in the comments section below!

LED Apple To Go Through Member Changes 2014-10-30 List Major News More Service

LED Apple To Go Through Member Changes

LED Apple announced a big change in their member lineup.

According to their official Japanese website, the current lineup of the group will wrap up their "Thank You LEDA" tour in December of this year and then go their separate ways. Members Hanbyul, Kyumin, and Kwangyeon will be stopping their promotions with the group. This leaves Young-jun and Hyo-seok to continue on with the LED Apple name, after finding three new members.

The statement cautiously cited personal projects and time off for health conditions as the reasons behind the reshuffle. Hanbyul will focus on a solo career while Kyumin will focus more on hip hop through a new unit group. Kwangyeon is said to need a long period of rest and treatment for stress incurred on his lower back from stage promotions.

[Battle] f(x)’s Amber vs. Super Junior’s Donghae

We have another round of the Battle of the celebrity look-a-likes, and this week, we’re featuring two SM idols - who share an animal doppelganger?

[Battle] f(x)’s Amber vs. Super Junior’s Donghae

Amber

f(x)’s Amber has long been advocating the #llamalife, embracing her eerie resemblance to the animal, but the idol has also been called Mini Donghae for her striking likeness to the Super Junior member.

While f(x) is currently on hiatus to the dismay of K-Pop fans everywhere, Amber will be joining fellow SM-er Zhoumi for his solo debut on music programs this week.

[Battle] f(x)’s Amber vs. Super Junior’s Donghae

Donghae

So if Amber resembles a llama and she also looks like Donghae, does this mean Donghae is meant for the #llamalife?

Well, if so, the Super Junior member is one handsome llama we ever done seen.

For now, Donghae is all about the Super Junior life, currently on tour with the boys and promoting special edition album This is Love.

Here’s a bonus photo of Donghae and Mini Donghae!

Woman Crush Wednesday: “Coffee Prince’s” Go Eun Chan

Woman Crush Wednesday: “Coffee Prince’s” Go Eun Chan

Last week, our first edition of Woman Crush Wednesday featured from “.” Known for being a walking contradiction, tough as nails but fragile like glass, Geum Jan Di brightened the screen for most who watched her in action. This week, our featured woman is just as strong, adorable, charismatic, and oh-so-crush worthy.

If you guessed from “,” you’d be correct! Since 2007, Go Eun Chan has been winning hearts, male and female alike, with her love for family, friends, and… money? She’s so busy with working all her odd jobs and supporting her family that she doesn’t have the time to be self-conscious of her image or to think about ridiculous things such as love. But sometimes, it’s when you least expect it that love will suddenly begin to knock on your front door.

Now, let’s count to five together and see what makes Go Eun Chan this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday (spoilers ahead):

1. Go Eun Chan is hardworking.

Go Eun Chan Jobs

Having been her family’s sole breadwinner since the age of sixteen, Go Eun Chan is one of the most hardworking gals I’ve ever seen, especially when her mother has a frustrating knack for spending money she doesn’t have on nice, pretty things. The length Go Eun Chan is willing to go in order to secure a job, any job, to help her troublesome family is truly admirable. (Because, quite frankly, if I were in Go Eun Chan’s shoes and I had a mother with a reckless spending addiction and an airy sister with her head permanently stuck up in the clouds, my family oriented self would still have said, “See you later, buddy, and good luck! Let’s catch up on the good times when you’ve actually learned how to be an adult.”)

But from food deliverer to Taekwondo teacher, server and barista to chestnut peeler, doll sewer to milk deliverer, and even pretending to be Choi Han Kyul‘s gay lover, she has done it all. Never once did she complain about her lot in life, and Go Eun Chan only tirelessly strived to do her best. That is true dedication!

2. Go Eun Chan is just one of the guys.

Go Eun Chan Bromance_1

She’s a female that rocks the bromances. It’s such a joy to see her laughing and smiling, hanging out and getting rough with the rest of the Coffee Prince team as an equal in every single way. The fact that she respects them and vice versa speaks of a deep brotherhood that lasts for a lifetime and that is definitely something to cherish. Go Eun Chan isn’t afraid to get down and dirty, to give it all she’s got, and to break out in sweat like a normal human being.

Her super strength is also a bonus and if you’re ever worried about getting so drunk, you can’t even walk a single step or moving from one place to another, don’t you worry. Go Eun Chan to the rescue!

3. The way Go Eun Chan eats…

Go Eun Chan Eating

There’s actually something quite endearing about the way Go Eun Chan eats. It’s hysterical, adorable, and yet… utterly mesmerizing. Normally, watching someone shoveling food in their mouth like they haven’t eaten in days would probably make me wrinkle my nose in disgust, but for Go Eun Chan, it’s strangely charming. No matter she’s eating, she manages to make it look like the best and most delicious food in the world – and maybe it is. (You never know!) I suppose it is this form of self-confidence that had Choi Han Kyul falling for her, even when he thought Go Eun Chan was a man, and, subsequently, becoming tormented with questions on his sexuality.

Regardless of how cute she looks with chipmunk cheeks and storing food away for the winter, I’m straddling the line between a squeal of horror and a laugh of amusement whenever Go Eun Chan simply brushes off the surface of the food that had fallen on the floor…. and eating it. Yes, eating it.

4. Go Eun Chan stays simplistically optimistic.

Go Eun Chan Optimistic

There are a multitude of ways one can see bubble wrap: an annoyance, childish fun, or perfect for wrapping that item you’re mailing to a friend. For Go Eun Chan; however, it’s a stress reliever. There was a genuine, but childlike, joy that lit up her entire face when she spotted a piece of that plastic wrap wedged between some trash bags. In fact, so much importance was placed on popping the air bubbles that Go Eun Chan even sacrificed the sheet by handing it off for someone else to “relieve stress” and watching with glee as he stared at the bubble wrap in his hand with amused surprise.

She finds the most basic form of happiness from playing (really badly!) Choi Han Sung‘s musical instruments, riding in a car with the hood down, spending time at the beach, playing with toys or splashing around in the public water fountain. Spending time at the coffee shop surrounded by her brothers and her love, Choi Han Kyul, she’s even happier. She doesn’t take anything for granted and always tries to look at situations from a positive perspective. Having such a great attitude is automatically a people magnet!

5. Go Eun Chan is a positive role model.

Go Eun Chan

When I say role model, I’m not talking about dressing yourself in cheap clothing where the only requirement is that it fits, picking food from the ground that you accidentally dropped and still eating it after trying to brush the bacteria off, or passing yourself off as a man – or woman. By role model, I mean showing the world that every woman does not have to be the stereotypical beautiful, feminine, and accomplished woman in order to succeed in life. Or that every man does not have to be the stereotypical male with muscles and money and chiseled features.

I’m talking about how Go Eun Chan had the capabilities to show that it’s okay to be yourself, to be comfortable in your own skin, and to love yourself for the person you are. That no matter what qualities you may or may not possess, you will still have family and friends and even love. You don’t have to hide behind a fabrication of yourself in hopes of capturing someone’s attention and you don’t have to pretend to be anything so you can succeed.

Just be yourself. That’s all you need.

Bonus Reason

Go Eun Chan can, apparently, make the perfect cup of coffee! As a coffee addict (I don’t need help. Really!), bonus points for that skill alone is well deserved.

Go Eun Chan Coffee

So, what are your thoughts on Go Eun Chan as this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday? Who would you like to see getting featured next? As always, let us know by posting a comment below and stay tuned for next week’s Woman Crush Wednesday!
