Gary has been selected to be the first Korean face of Chinese instant messaging service QQ Messenger, confirming his popularity in China once again.
QQ Instant Messenger, which is owned by Tencent QQ, is China′s largest messenger application, servicing 800 million users.
Gary will be standing shoulder to shoulder with China′s top stars Jane Zhang, Kai Zheng and Zhang Bichen as the only Korean model in a new ad for QQ Messenger.
Gary′s agency LeeSsang Company stated, "Filming wrapped in Shanghai on March 22. It is a great honor that Gary has been chosen as the only Korean model to stand among three Chinese stars."
A rep from Tencent QQ stated, "We cast Gary not only because he′s popular in China, but because there′s a lot of interest in the artist and rapper Gary. We uncovered many of Gary′s talents while filming this commercial with him. We want to be good partners with Gary in QQ′s various enterprises."
The premise of the new ad for QQ Messenger is that the three Chinese stars and Gary are friends and Kai Zheng invites them all to his birthday party. However, due to schedule conflicts, the stars can′t make it to the party, so the four stars engage in a video chat.
On the day of filming, Gary reportedly showed off his natual acting skills and spoke his lines in Chinese flawlessly, drawing praise from QQ Messenger′s advertisers, the director and the staff on set for his professionalism.
Gary has held showcases in Hong Kong, Singapore, Guangzhou, China and Macao, beginning in the latter half of last year, securing his position as an artist not only in Korea, but all of Asia.
In fact, Gary continues to receive love calls from companies in China and Asia at large, showing his potential as a new kind of hallyu star.
