The recent scandal involving iKON's B.I and his father's arrest has many worried for the group's 2015 debut, but some are more hopeful about the situation than others.
On October 28, former Sunghwa Pretech CEO Kim Jeong Joo-and B.I's father-was reportedly detained to stand trial for charges of embezzlement. While the scandal is causing concerns about B.I's debut with iKON, others are using 2NE1's Sandara Park (Dara) as an example of a parent's scandal not affecting the idol's debut with a K-pop group.

"When 2NE1 debuted, Dara faced the same situation where her father had been charged [and arrested]," commented cozzypooh on allkpop. "Did Dara get affected? Did Dara get kicked out of the group? Did 2NE1's popularity sink?"
"The sins of the father should not be suffered by the children."
According to MK News, Joo is facing charges along with an accomplice for deceiving investors with false company statements to raise 18.1 billion won (approximately $17 million) and embezzling 2.39 billion won (approximately $2.2 million) of company funds. Reportedly, the accomplice has gone missing and the police are tracing his whereabouts.
Similarly, Dara's father Ik Su Park was apprehended in April of 2007 for fraud stemming from an incident in 2005. The controversy surrounding her father and her subsequent move from Manila back to Korea made many wonder whether 2NE1's debut would be negatively impacted by Dara's presence.
Despite this argument, B.I's connection to his father's scandal has led many to believe that iKON's debut planned for the Spring should be pushed back, or that B.I should even drop out of the group.
"If you have any brains at all, you wouldn't feel bad for B.I," said another observer according to translations by NetizenBuzz. "Who do you think paid for all the expensive snapbacks, clothes and shoes that he wore? There are over 300 victims in this scandal. Be honest with yourselves. You're not feeling sorry for him. You're scared you won't be able to see B.I. on TV anymore."
