Super Junior's Shindong Will Stop DJ-Ing In Preparation Of Joining The Army

Super Junior's Shindong will DJ his last radio show this summer, in anticipation of his military enlistment.

Shindong began hosting MBC's late night radio show Shimshimtapa ("Stop The Boring Time") in 2008, when the show first began. Although he has taken time off, due to his idol activities, Shindong has hosted the show since its inception.

The idol's entertaining show was created to break the monotony of boring nights spent up late, and has been well-received in Korea. Rather than making the radio show about being an idol, Shindong's Shimshimtapa became a show where the host would tell relatable stories, making the radio show popular among listeners.

In 2013, Shindong won the Radio Category Top Excellence Award at the MBC Entertainment Awards.

SM Entertainment announced on June 25 that Shindong's last show will air on July 6, and then the singer will focus on Super Junior's promotions prior to enlisting in the army.

Rather than another member of Super Junior taking over the show, or even another idol, due to the unique late-night, amusing broadcast, the singer Jung Joon Young will take over as Shimshimtapa's host. Jung Joon Young has gained a lot of attention for his role on We Got Married, where he showed off his 4D (four-dimensional) personality. He is likely to be an extremely entertaining host.

Super Junior is unique among idol groups for having members rotate in and out of their military service. So far, Heechul and Kangin have made their comebacks after completing eighteen months in the Korean Army, and the leader Leeteuk is set to return this summer.

Shindong and Leeteuk are both known as two of Super Junior's leading variety-men, so it is understandable that when Leeteuk returns Shindong will begin his duty.

There is no news of when Shindong will enter the army, although SM Entertainment has confirmed that it will take place in the second half of this year.

Super Junior is in the midst of preparing their seventh album and upcoming promotional cycle. Another Super Junior member, Donghae, posted a picture to his Instagram on June 17 that confirmed the idol group's imminent seventh album.

SM Entertainment has confirmed that Shindong will partake in the album's activities and promotional cycles.
