How Are Idols Celebrating the Lunar New Year?
As Korea celebrates the Lunar New Year, it’s no surprise that fan still watch their favorite idols on television through such programs as MBC’s “Idol Olympics.” However, as some idols are heading home to celebrate with their families, other idols are busy working and promoting in Korea and overseas.
For SM Entertainment’s artists, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, f(x), and EXO were given breaks to celebrate and rest during the Lunar New Year. As almost all the singers went home to their families, Girls’ Generation’s YoonA was an exception, as the singer and actress continued to film for her KBS2TV drama, “Prime Minister and I.” Furthermore, TVXQ’s Changmin was also busy during the New Year as he continued to film for the Mnet drama, “Mimi.”
YoonA and Changmin were not alone when it came to filming during the New Year celebrations. Sistar’s Dasom was also focused on filming her KBS2TV daily drama, “Melody of Love,” while her other members received a temporary break during the holidays.
Cube Entertainment’s and TS Entertainment’s singers were the busiest during the holiday. 4Minute were busy preparing for their Hong Kong fanmeeting that would take place on February 8. Although the members were able to spend some time with their families, the vacation was brief as the members were back to practicing for their fanmeeting. BtoB, who were also busy with their upcoming comeback, left Korea for the Philippines as the boys were scheduled to take part in the February 2’s K-Pop concert. Due to their scheduled promotions in Japan on January 30, BEAST spent their New Year holiday in Japan.
B.A.P was also in the same circumstance as BtoB, as the group planned to attend Philippine’s K-Pop concert. The boys were able to spend a short time with their families before departing for the Philippines on January 31; B.A.P will arrive back in Korea on February 3. Secret was also given a short break with their families, as the girl group plans to depart for Japan on February 1 to promote their upcoming Japanese single, “I Do I Do.”
Similar to BEAST, 2PM also spent the holidays overseas due to their Japanese concert. Starting from Nagoya from January 27 to 28, the boys will continue their Japanese tour until the end of March, planning to visit 5 cities during a total of 14 concerts.
C.N Blue went more towards the west, as they continued their world tour. Starting from January 21, the band traveled from New York to Los Angeles, arriving at Mexico on January 27. C.N Blue spent their New Year holiday continuing their world tour in Chile and Peru.
Girl groups who made their comebacks in January were able to spend the holiday with their families. Girl’s Day members went home on January 28 and 29, and have until February 1 to enjoy their break. Dal Shabet finished their last schedule on January 30 and also went home for the New Year. Rainbow Blaxx was only able to rest on the day of Lunar New Year, planning to continue their activities through SBS’ Inkigayo.
Seeing how some idols have short breaks, while others lack rest, convey their dedication to music and their supporters. As a fan, I am grateful for these singers’ continuous efforts to bring the best music to their fans. For 2014, we wish that idols have more breaks to rest so that they may be able to provide more high quality music in the future.
Happy New Year everyone!
