Jewelry’s Yewon Is 2014′s Hot New Variety Star?
“This is about my friend…”
Jewelry’s Yewon has emerged as a new rising star after last month’s episode of MBC’s “Radio Star” where she related “her friend’s” relationship concerns. With a story that was impossible to tell whether it was actually her story or her friend’s story, Yewon became a hot topic, one of the most searched people on online portal sites after the broadcast.
But that wasn’t the first time this had happened. In one of last year’s episodes of JTBC’s 19+ talk show “Witch Hunt,” Yewon also talked about information from her friend, and revealed some telling information about the idol dating scene.
Yewon explained, “I can’t exactly say ‘This is about me,’ to Haha and the MCs. But that also doesn’t mean that I have the hypothetical younger boyfriend that I talked about during the episode. I really just asked because I was curious about a certain situation, but the MCs really tried to make it seem real. Honestly, I’m the type to fall in love really quickly, but I still don’t have a boyfriend. I’d really like it if I got a boyfriend this year.”
Yewon has already appeared 4 times on “Witch Hunt.” The 19+ talk show has risen in popularity as of late, and has featured guests with strong images such as Brown Eyed Girls‘ Ga In and Narsha, Um Jung Hwa, etc., but Yewon, with her cute and pure image, has appeared on the show often as if she is part of the panel.
“Honestly, when it comes to relationships, I’m a little old-fashioned. Ever since I was young, I thought, ‘I’m going to become a celebrity, so I have to carefully maintain my personal life,’ and I held back with relationships. I even wanted to have my first kiss as an adult, so I had it in college… but going on ‘Witch Hunt,’ it was a totally new world. I went to record the show for the first time, and they were talking about things that could never be broadcast on the air, the studio audience is watching you… at first I resented my agency. I’m so young, and to make me talk about things like that… But after a couple of times on the show, it was fun. And the fact that I can’t control my facial expressions is funny even to me.”
With the help of her appearances on “Radio Star” and “Witch Hunt,” Yewon has become a rising variety star in 2014. She is now a special MC for KBS’s “Let’s Go! Dream Team,” and also appeared on MBC Every1’s “I Live With a Celebrity.” Moreover, she has gotten an increased amount of screen time in the drama “Miss Korea.”
For her new year wishes, she said “I would love it if I got a boyfriend, and I want to be on the regular cast for a variety program.” She joked, “If Jewelry does well, I kind of want to ask my agency CEO for a weight-loss procedure.”
